Seasons

Where will this collection land?

We’ve had a solo piano collection actively in the works for well over a year. The composition hasn’t been forgotten, but has been shelved as other projects like The Tent and the launch of Rosefinch Insiders have taken precedent these last few seasons. As the literal seasons pass though, it’s amazing how the composition style of the solo piano collection has changed. Each moment I take these pieces off the shelf, I’m in a different state of mind. Originally, we dreamed up this collection in the winter of 2022 and envisioned these to be brittle and beautiful, mimicking the dark frozen winter landscapes of Iceland. But now, in the height of summer, the coldness of the piano is melting and becoming more playful. We're experimenting with delays, adding some shape, and warming up the tone.

As I write this, I’m sipping a tiki drink on my deck and pondering how these piano works might evoke the passing calmness of a gentle breeze through palm trees or speed of the Hawaiian trade winds? Where this collection lands is still a mystery, but isn’t that part of the beauty of composition? Each piece a tiny mirror reflecting our life, and our soul. I’m here for it. We’re here for it. See you on the other side.
