Ex Nihilo
A short reflection on the joy of music.
Last night in the studio was that magic moment where composition, improvisation, and the joy of music collide. After doing some piano sound design, I started developing ideas for our next solo piano track. Some high piano flourishes establish the piece, then a melody slowly develops. The solo ideation phase is a beautiful creative moment as we bring ideas to reality. For me, it’s bringing the ideas of a cold and brittle, yet comforting and nostalgic piano to life, hoping to stretch the listener in their ability to reflect and wonder. Sometimes the thought of a blank canvas can be intimidating, but with this piece, creating ex nihilo is as much a joy as it is fuel for my soul. I hope it’s the same for you. Happy creating.
